Welding & Fabrication: The Backbone of Metalwork

Welding and fabrication are often mentioned together, but they are not the same thing. Welding is the process of fusing two metals with similar melting points, typically using heat generated by an electric arc. Techniques such as MIG, TIG, oxy-acetylene, and gas metal arc welding are applied depending on the project. Of these, TIG welding is the most widely used in fabrication shops because of its precision and clean finish.

Fabrication, on the other hand, is the complete process of creating a finished product from raw metal. It starts with reading blueprints and includes cutting, bending, shaping, and assembling materials before welding them together. In addition to welding, fabrication can involve roll forming, stamping, hydroforming, die cutting, spinning, shrinking, stretching, and finishing.

The advantage of large fabrication shops is that they offer end-to-end solutions. From drawings to cutting, welding, finishing, and installation, everything is done under one roof. Typical projects include structural frames, staircases, handrails, heavy equipment parts, and custom components.
